Amor Só de Mãe

Amor só de Mãe tells the story of 3 incarcerated women that reflects the reality of an unequal social system. Nina, Lea and Elisabette are inmates at the Franca Public Prison, in the state of São Paulo. The documentary follows the day-to-day lives of these women and proposes a reflection on the pain of mothers and daughters as they await their sentences.

Julia Hannud e Catharina Scarpellini
Julia Hannud is an auteur documentary director and founder of UMA FILMES, an independent film production company in São Paulo that produces experimental and documentary films. Julia directed the short film “AMOR, SÓ DE MÃE” (2018), shortlisted for Student BAFTA 2019; the feature film “SAUDADE MUNDÃO” (2020), launched at FESTin Lisboa 2019, which deals with narratives of women in prison in Brazil and is available on the digital platforms Amazon Prime, Google Play and Apple TV. She also directed the short film “BACURANAO”, produced during her documentary master's degree at EICTV in Cuba and currently being finalized.
Catharina Scarpellini is a Brazilian director of photography based in London. She graduated in Cinema from FAAP in São Paulo in 2016 and her short film Amor, Só de Mãe, which she co-directed and directed, was shortlisted for the BAFTA Student Film Awards in 2019. This recognition paved the way for her feature film debut with Saudade Mundão, which premiered at the FESTin Festival and was subsequently distributed in Brazil. She recently won the cinematography award for her short film Blind Eye at the Watersprite Film Festival in 2025.
